The 31st Anniversary Walsham Open Gardens Weekend
Welcome to Walsham le Willows and our 31th Open Gardens Weekend.
Whether you are a regular visitor or this is your first time we do hope that you have a most enjoyable time.
This year there are five brand new gardens to see plus another four which have made a welcome return after taking a few years break. The early drought gave way to a summer of sunshine and showers so all the gardens are looking really good this year - apart from garden No 6 !
A coup for the gardens weekend committee this year was a visit in late July by the BBC's Gardeners Question Time. Two shows where recorded in St Mary's church in front of a capacity audience. The first was broadcast earlier this month the second is due for broadcast on the Friday 2nd at 3pm & repeated on Sunday 5th September at 2.30 on Radio 4. Please listen if you can.
This is very much a village affair with over 200 people involved in one way or another. The main objective of the Gardens Weekend Committee is longevity. Importantly the Gardens Weekend brings external money into the village. The event has run successfully for 30 years; however, the Committee believes that the event can only be sustained at the current level if Village Organisations and individuals see or experience the benefit from their input.
As always there is a free Bus service for all (including pensioners and John Stebbings) running on both days around the village and of course there are wonderful refreshments served all day in the memorial hall, Priory room and that garden No 6 !
If you enjoyed your visit please tell others. If something is not right please tell us.
Robin Newell –
Chairman, The Gardens Weekend Committee
