The Gardens - 1 to 5 Walsham Open Gardens Weekend

Please find below a brief description of the gardens you can visit and what you might find on your trails. The idea here is to give you taster, ideally we would really like you to come and visit us in person over the bank holiday weekend.

1. Jim and Jennifer Russell

A relatively new garden, of approximately 11/2 acres, originally designed by Notcutts. At the front there are lawns with small beds of conifers, heathers and shrubs. At the rear are extensive lawns with mixed flowerbeds of shrubs and herbaceous perennials either side of lawned paths. There is an ornamental pond and established hedges and trees.

2. Helen Matheson

Previously a small commercial nursery this garden is now being converted for domestic use. Raised beds separated by wide paths contain a large variety of plants and vegetables. New beds are being created for shaded areas and roses. There is a small chicken run at the end of the garden. Helen will be selling a small number of perennials over the weekend and local plantswoman Sue Woolster will be displaying her large collection of Alpine campanulas.

3. Robert and Ann James

A beautiful, very well maintained cottage garden, totally renovated by its garden designer owners. Undulating lawns, pergolas, topiary and pond give plenty of interest. The garden is full of colour and has been planted and prepared especially for the Gardens Weekend.

4. Harry and Debbie Hoy

At the front is a natural pond surrounded by a variety of shrubs and mature trees. At the rear attractive terracing with brightly planted pots lead onto a small raised kitchen garden, a path leading to a pergola and small circular bed and good sized lawn with summerhouse and a variety of young fruit tress. There are colourful beds planted with a mixture of annuals and perennials and a wonderful open view over undulating farmland.

5. Elliot and Ellen Fowles

A large, mature garden of just over one acre, surrounding a picturesque 15th century farmhouse. The garden is divided into a number of distinct areas. At the front is a beautiful old pond surrounded by roses and Lonicera hedge. At the rear mixed beds of shrubs and herbaceous plants. There are many mature trees including Yew, Ash, Chestnut and Mulberry. Fruit trees, herbs, vegetable garden and chicken run.
